The reason I've decided to design this way is so that "Important" information is fixed in it's location in the interface. This allows my "eye" to know where certain information is going to be at any given moment. This improves my ability to process and scan for the most important...

The thing about the room buttons, is you only need to access them in very specific rooms and very specific times. There is no point in taking up space in the interface for an interaction that happens rarely. What I'd suggest is just expanding that panel and collapsing others when you enter the room....
