There are plenty of ways to get rewards from than. Try getting a key first or making sure no one else gets the keys. Often times no one has a key until hours after he spawns. Try running in there and grabbing some hexes. He drops them or gives them as he dies so just being there helps.
Also learn the rooms they each have their advantages as disadvantages.
