well it is kinda like what i said awhile ago. the system may be linear in how searching and hide work but the classes and opposition isnt.
if you play and manage to 1v1 somone on that hider you pretty much cant lose if you have +4 int. however the way the races are set up, there is really nothing ingame with medium range Int score (druids have 14-18 sometimes but they get FF anyway so its irrelevant)
so when you are facing opponents you need all or none on int so to speak.

what you end up with is mostly elf/gnome casters with 22-24 int or dpsers with 10. so devoting 20 points into int is generally non essential because you would only get the leg up, on dwarf and goblin casters. this is why i said you can stop at 14-15 int unless you are a gnome. in Most cases you will realize there is noone creating or using 20 int caster races for the most part. this is why, awhile back, i said hide, needs a +3 bonus vs search. i still feel this would help balance every race of slayer/brig vs searching.
