Events and you!

Events are supposed to be for the players to compete in and have fun with. They break up the grind of leveling and pveing for the most part. they also give players a chance to win some pretty great rewards.

The intention for us event staffers is to offer a wide variety of events that are FUN and FAIR for all players. This is much easier said than done there are certain things that make this difficult. Guild in-balance and participation means certain events become unfair for people. After a certain amount of time of these unfair events people just stop eventing then the problem snowballs. Lately we have been trying to run events that take the guild element out of events so that everyone has a fair chance. This sounds great but the problem is its very very hard to do this.

Unfortunately unless we run 1v1 type events (which imo are very boring and do not take much skill but rather luck its nearly impossible to keep things completely fair)

Now its possible to run fair 2v2 and 3v3 events but then a number problem can come into play. we need even numbers and then people without partners can get left out (thats not very fair or fun right?)

Well say we have a anything goes mosh usually the biggest guild will win thats not very fair or fun for the people outside of the biggest guild right?

Since all these events cannot be totally fair to all people we try to run a variety of events this way everyone has a chance at certain events. I feel we do a pretty good job of spreading them out best we can but the reason im writing this is to hear from you players on what events you like and think both match the FUN & FAIR requirement.

Here are the totals from july of the events we have ran:

Find me 3
Various Moshes 3
2s mosh 2
kill pets 3
cycle 4
gamble 3
race 0
draft mosh 0
random teams mosh 1
mystery target mosh 0
2v2 1
Koth 4
Koth jr 4
Monday mosh 4
3v3 3
Other 5
Total 40

So please if you have input on events you like dislike or have recommendations for events please post here and we will try to work with it best we can.

Keep in mind we do this for you guys we understand the game needs to be as fair as possible otherwise it isnt fun. The last thing the event staff including myself wants to do is give certain people an edge. I have devoted a tooooooooon of time to this game as many others have and the last thing i wanna do is see numbers drop because I want a certain guild to do well.

I speak as someone who rarely cares to participate in events (even when I am able to) for some of the reasons you outlined. I applaud you for recognising the issue. And I thank you for the quantity of your time you have devoted to the game's development. However, my opinion is that trying to find an even more optimal 'variety of events' (while nice) is an ineffective bandaid solution to the symptoms rather than addressing the core issue.

The core issue (as you probably/hopefully realise from your post, but can't seem to bear to explicitly state) is the lack of guild diversity in the game.... I have previously raised this here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1738 and here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1512 .... This is an issue which not only affects player motivation for events but also OADing, key battles, world walkers etc (pretty much all competitive aspects of gameplay).

I suggest investing in exploring ways to address this core issue rather than merely trying to run more quantity or variety of events in an attempt to mask the existence of the core problem... Carry on though, if you disagree :)

Peace.

PS- I do not say these things purely to be negative or critical etc... I say them because I truly believe considering how to address these core issues will allow the game to improve and reach its potential better.

Edit - removed excess verbosity

Why not actually make guild events?
Each guild get to enter teams, go from there.
Why always cater to the individual? Add catering to groups.
I am actually surprised there are no guild events.
The only problems I see is that there are what 3 main active guilds... but still, would be nice to see clan events.
If say only 3 (or any odd number) clans show up. Then have each clan team fight each clan. A win is a point.
As in if it was just 3 clans: clan A fights Clan B then C, Clan B fights clan A and then C, Clan C fights A and then B. If there is a draw the drawing teams fight to decide the winner.
Clan/Team with most points wins.
Could even have clan cycle downs :D

Events are Ok for me (i just dont like moshs with potions allowed, but its only a personal preference). Events rules and types of events are fine, but like said before, actual guild diversity have negative effects in some types of events.

Clan events with pre-defined teams should be a good idea.

Example: A weekly event where every guild pick 4 champions and send them to arena. The victorious players get rewards and guild gets a reward (maybe a xp, a gold bonus or something related to guild houses during the week). Maybe some ppl in bigger guilds can even create their own guilds to participate on these, since there is a limit of players that can fight for each them.

Dunno if it can be validated, but u must be in guild for a minimum number of days to participate, just to avoid ppl joining guilds just for the event and leaving after it.

-----

Another suggestion: Actually KOTH seens to be the "top event" of the server. But i think a TGC style tourney, like the barbarian event, is better and dont rely on luck too much (since in KOTH, last fighter have more chances of victory).

I would like to thank all the staff that give up their time to run the events. It's not easy running events trying to please everyone without someone complaining about something.

To further extend from this suggestion. Guild events can make things even and encourage guild diversity. The events can limit one party per guild and depends on the event it could be 6v6 or 4v4, etc. Rewards can be given to guild and party so guild don't temporary make secondary guilds to join these events. Guild rewards could be point that goes towards guild houses (when we get those) or something like +.5% gold killing mobs.

Guild events would be awesome, buuuut this has been suggested guys. There was zero interest from guilds that are not Silh. I'd love to try again but meh.

My favorite events are team based. Draft moshes, 2v2, 3v3 with randomly assigned teams to get rid of the guild factor are my preference.

But fuck it I like all events, I wish more people did them :D.

Yeah I theortically agree with u that if the rewards were structured smartly, then guild events could be the incentive needed to promote guild diversity. I guess the trick is to find a fair way to provide enough incentive for this to work. Guild gold/xp bonuses or points towards guild housing as rewards don't work to promote diversity tho imho (in fact they would probably do the opposite and make ppl even more likely to stick to existing super-guilds so as to acces those bonuses/houses etc)... One of my previous posts on guild diversity has a sliding scale rewards system which basically favours winners from smaller guilds receiving a proportionately greater reward. It would probably have to be something like that to provide adequate enticement for ppl to start new guilds and compete, or even for existing underdog guilds to even bother trying. Shrugs.

It sounds like everyone would like guild events but there are two problems with guild events. Whenever we try to run them we are limited by the smallest guild that joins.

We have tried to run them in the past and we struggle to get 3 players from each guild. Maybe if we had a set day for guild events this number could go up. So while rev or torm might only have 3 that want to participate sil might have 8 that want to event that means 5 people have to sit out... (not fair or fun)

Then you get to the matter of there are 3 main guilds which means you can't do all at once (there will be teaming and that's not fair). You would have to do a few round robin rounds which isn't a big deal but I'm just saying doing guild events isn't as easy or as fair as it sounds at all.

I wouldn't worry about people sitting out in that example. Comes with the territory in events like this. I do get what you're saying but I don't think that point needs to be worried about.

I would not worry about the 5 people that have to sit out. This can be done by in-guild rotation system or if they feel they never get to do it, then new guilds might get formed which will solve the 3 big guild issue. I agree with Jake, that should not be a worry about hosting these events.
