its not that "leader" chat is a horrible idea. its the fact that what ur asking for, imo, is already available via discord and/or direct paging.

would it be nice someday? sure.

From now on i am making sure i talk to you first to check if its a subject that you approve.

I don't think it improves gameplay by having new recruits not actually be able to interact with a guild. What game in the history of games does that? Seriously have you ever played a game where you join a guild and you can't actually interact with that guild? What's the point of joining a guild?

I know I'm the hugest prick ever for disagreeing, but I don't think this is helpful for the game at all. It does nothing but promote cliques and scare off newbies.

Cliques are already rampant. They are just called "guilds" lol. Eg a newbie starting at the moment (while your recruitment is closed) would not be able to join/get to know your entire guild which makes up a rather significant portion of the stable game community. In order to avoid newbs getting scared away from the shortcomings of existing guild system then there probably eventually needs to be a way to seperate guild actives from player socialisation. I believe several other threads have suggested some ways for this such as limited worldchat or friend lists etc. Imho that's probably the direction this needs to go in terms of developing chat functionality - so newbs can make friends with all players in whatever guild, rather than find themselves bored/lonely etc esp if they live in non peak timezones. Peace all.

I think a leader chat is not a bad idea (or even some kind of chat that you can invite people into temporarily).

Sure you have alternatives:
paging: clunky if you are talking to more than one person,
party chat: need to form a party though,
discord: sort of the same problem as normal guild chat, unless you make a leader channel, but it is still a separate window (I sometimes do not look at discord when I am busy - levelling while watching something or playing some other game, but I will (usually) see guild chat).

I do not see the harm in adding another level of chat (be it leader chat or one where you can add people of your choosing into).
Recruits should still be able to see standard guild chat, or yeh... it'd be a lonely experience for them.

Ok, rehashing something i've proposed around here:

Force all characters to have a "surname" that is common to all characters of the account.
This "surname" can be different from the actual account name, for security reasons.
It can also be changed at will, but it will impact all characters of the account.

So for example, if I set my surname to "Glomgold", when one does /i to any of my chars, you'd read:
/i Tyrargo
Name: Tyrargo (Glomgold)

This will not only stop "spies" but also help us identify each other. It will also help prevent multiboxing.

I get this but it doesn't stop spies at all. People who make spy alts, if they do often use a separate account completely. I don't want to lock people to one account and it's impossible to do anyways as it is easy to get around a IP or computer lock per account, can't really be enforced properly.

ok, still do it for us to be able to know each other :P

Anyway, does anyone actually have evidence of spies? I've seen our leaders boot people that "could" be spies, but even if they were, i cant recall any instance of us being "spied" upon.

Yeah I can add something for that eventually, maybe when I get to seeing how friends list will work.
I think honestly there might of been one or two max but then it gets blown out of proportion.

I like this idea and also think this would be a good idea for player socialisation (and guild administration too!). Something like making accounts show up as noble houses or something (eg Tyrargo of house Glomgold). Agree that it won't really stop the spies and I also don't think every char in an account should be forced to display the surname (eg there might be room for 'bastard' characters who choose not to bear surname so they can be anonymous but then ppl naturally will distrust them more).
