AC, How does it work?

Postby Decay » Sat Jun 03, 2017 8:28 am

What are the calculations for AC, and what does it do exactly? Does it increase dodge? Does high amounts increase chance to absorb parts of the damage? How is 100 AC different from 90?

Does not increase dodge. It increases your overall damage absorption and chance to deflect. I can't remember the formula, NH can hook that up for you.

It's pretty easy to follow in any case.

10% of your overall armor (shield/armor/helmet/etc) will be your passive armor rate in percent. So if you have 100 armor, you get 10% passive armor absorption. If I attack you with 200 damage, it will become 180 damage.

For active absorption/deflection it is:
-Every 1 point of armor with armor/helmet becomes 0.5% absorption chance. If you absorb, you get 20%-50% damage removed. (random)
-Every 1 point of shield becomes 0.9% deflection chance. If you deflect, you get 20% to 50% damage removed. (random)
You can do both in the same round, totaling 40%-100% removed.

For example someone with 100AC, 18AC being shield would be:
Absorb Chance: 82AC*0.5 = 41% chance to absorb.
Deflect Chance: 18AC*0.9 = 16.2% chance to deflect.
BOTH ROLLS ARE INDIVIDUAL.

Someone who has no shield but more armor will be somewhere in the middle but won't have to worry about losing a shield for more damage (dual wielding or two handed).
I.E. A druid with 96 AC, obviously no shield would be 48% chance to absorb.

So for example a mage with 100ac might have a 50% chance or so to absorb but a knight with 100ac total 80 reg and 20 shield is better off by about 5-7%? Chance

Yeah about for example, but you also get that chance of 100% absorb (50% absorb/50% deflect) that you'll not get without a shield.
